Once were warriors.
Once were competitors.
Erstwhile colleagues and so-called comedians.
Lo, the landscape changed. Lo, babies. Lo, priorities.
But yet, still, from the murmurs of some and the enquiries of others, emanates this: time after time..
"When we gettin' the fucking table tennis on again, mate?"
This blog hears the voice of the members and echoes the collective narrative. Namely - let's get it happening.
So, we suggest this: the Table Blades League gets up again on Wednesday 1st or Thursday 2nd April. And continues for the weeks throughout the early summer.
Reigning champion, Gary Little, was, previously, kind enough to book the slots for the TBL meets. We ask, humbly, that Gary responds now and hope that he will lead us into a new season, will book sessions at the Gorbals Sports Centre for the TBL.
Some have suggested that the champ is content to hold onto his crown, uncontested, happy to gaze at the laurels on his mantelpiece. This blog is ill-at-ease with such opinion. We know the big man holds fast to the Taoist tenet, "To contend is to endure".
Where Are They Now?
Mark "The Admiral" Nelson hasn't slept since the birth of his child.
Rob "Angry Wrists" Kane hasn't slept since the birth of his child. Or Nelson's.
Chris "Thunder n Lightning" Forbes hasn't slept since "her with the hair" told him she is with child.
Gary "Quick Wrist" Little has spent a year meditating on Wu-Dan mountain.
Bruce "The Spin Doctor" Morton hasn't given a flying fuck about fuck all.
Viv "Batgirl" Gee won £1.2m on the Lottery and spent the whole wedge on a blade made of diamonds and human flesh.
Greg "Maple Grief" Hemphill returned to Canada and was last seen in the short film, "Dances With Moose"
We recollect that the last time a TBL meet was mooted, late last year, a contender, Gus Beattie, was tasked with setting up a game at his patch. It didn't happen. 'Cos of reasons. With no disrespect to Gus - who we welcome to formally join our league - let's let the body of the TBL vote for the when' n' where.
